4th Regiment AFM provides service support to all AFM Units in peace time and in times of crises. The Regimental Headquarters are located in Luqa Barracks commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Keith Mizzi, AFM. This Unit’s ORBAT is made up of the following sub-units:
- Headquarters Company
- AFM Band
- C2S Company
- Revenue Security Corps
- Training School
Headquarters Company
Headquarters Company provides service support to enable the Unit to function and complete assigned tasks. It is composed of the following sections:
- Company Headquarters
- Quartermaster Section
- Maintenance Section
- Chaplaincy
- Canteens and Messes
- Military Police Platoon
- MT Platoon
AFM Band
At the forefront of several national festivities or ceremonial parades, the AFM military band is made up of some of Malta’s finest bandsmen. Lead by Captain Jonathan Borg, these individuals are highly qualified musicians and frequently display their professionalism through several musical programmes and displays. As soldiers of the Force they also perform support duties in cases of emergency.
Often considered as the AFM’s public face, the Band’s highly skilled and dedicated musicians work to a relentless schedule of displays and an exhaustive number of rehearsals so as to achieve an impeccable performance every time. The AFM Band sets to achieve its goals through:
- National performances and ceremonial commitments
- Educational visits and performances at schools
- Promenade displays for the general public
- Participation in annual international military tattoos both locally and abroad
- Participation at charity events and concerts for the elderly
Running abreast with these commitments the Band performs other customary military duties which include regular firearm practice and weapons classification
Command Control and Support Company
The Command Control and Support Company (C2S) is responsible for the operation and technical support of the AFM’s communications, information systems, infrastructure and resources. The C2S Company also mans the AFM Operations’ Centre (OPCEN) in Luqa Barracks.
It is through OPCEN that HQ AFM maintains situation awareness and exercises command, control and communication with deployed AFM Units and assets.
The AFM Operations Centre also doubles as a Rescue Coordination Centre and maintains an integrated maritime picture through radar and other information technology driven systems. The Communications and Information Systems Company is task organised into:
- Company Headquarters
- Signals Platoon
- Riggers Section
- Technical Support Section
Revenue Security Corps (RSC)
The Revenue Security Corps (RSC) is tasked with providing key-point protection at select banks and identified Government Departments.
It also conducts valuable cargo escort operations and carries out cash-in-transit (CIT) details and executive VVIP close protection duties.
AFM Training School
The AFM Training School primary objective is to provide training courses to members of the AFM so that they can fulfil their roles effectively and ensure fulfilment of individual training and development goals.
The courses organised by the Training School are varied and range from basic recruitment training to cadetships. The Training School is responsible for conducting development courses that include specialist skills and career development courses
