Malta’s Contribution
In 2008, Malta made its first operational deployment in a civilian crisis management operation. As a result, on 18 September 2008, Malta pledged and deployed one officer and one senior non-commissioned officer to serve as Malta’s force contribution towards the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia. The AFM deployed the two Maltese Monitors at very short notice and before EUMM to Georgia was officially launched on 1 Oct 2008. The Armed Forces of Malta has continuously sustained this deployment with two personnel ever since.
