On 15th April 1942, King George VI’s message rang out: “To honour her brave people, I award the George Cross to the island fortress of Malta.”
Today marks 82 years since a momentous honour was bestowed upon Malta: the awarding of the George Cross by King George VI. At the height of World War II, amidst relentless bombing raids, Malta’s resilience and bravery captured the world’s admiration. Despite facing the heaviest bombing attacks of the war, Malta stood firm, with its people enduring unimaginable sacrifices.
Today, as we reflect on our history, let us pay tribute to the indomitable spirit of our ancestors and the enduring legacy of the George Cross.
